Fixing some common problems with ASUS laptops.

ASUS is one of the top of the line hardware as they have spent millions on research and development over the years to guarantee a quality product that can be just as good as any other laptop in the market. So whether you bought a motherboard, a video card, or a laptop, you will be pretty much safe from any kinds of laptop troubles in near future.  However, it is just a machine, and as any other machine or electronic device, it can give some “hick-ups” from time to time.

Anyway, if you have an ASUS laptop, one of the most common problems that you might face is “driver errors”, and the causes to this problem can be attributed either to a corrupt driver or out of date drivers. Whatever is the case, drivers can get corrupted if your computer is infected by malware or viruses if it doesn’t get out of the date.  Sometimes, when you run any kind of windows update or install some kinds of new software, your drivers can easily go out of date. Anyway, whether your driver goes out of date or gets corrupted, all you need to do is to update your laptop driver. 

 

Another common problem with ASUS, specially The ASUS K50IJ laptop, is that you get some issues with the screen of the laptop. It is possible that you get either a black screen or white screen instead of a combination of colors. You can also find out that the laptop monitor has become full of black and white dots, as can be seen with all systems after a long period of use. A flickering screen is also a common issue in almost all laptop screens, and ASUS laptop is not immune from this “disease” as well.  So, anyway, if you have these problems with your laptop screen, you will probably need to Upgrade the video card, check the inverter, and check the back light.  However, if you are not that comfortable with doing these technical things, you can just take it to a local laptop repairs store.

Laptop slowdowns can be annoying!

I love working on Laptop, specially if it is a Toshiba laptop, probably because I started my career with a laptop handed over to me by my first employer. But, what if your laptop becomes painfully slow or not doing the jobs for you as fast as you expect? Well, the answer is it can be frustrating in the least.  Now, if we can figure out what could possibly be the factors that are causing your laptop to perform below its capacity, we could try to fix them by ourselves.  And these factors could be anything between “running too many unnecessary processes” to “data fragmentation of hard disk” and from “hardware breakdown/slowdown” to a particular “windows update”.  In fact, the possibilities can be endless..sadly.

 If you fear that some of laptop hard-wares are damaged or broken, just try to be sure by listening to the sound of your hard drive if it is making any “unnatural noise”. You could also try to listen to the sound of fan it is making any buzzing noise, or if it is circulating enough air to cool your system down. In case if you didn’t know, an over-heated laptop can get slowed down.  You could also check to find out if there was any recent windows update.  If it is any new windows update or any other third-party installation, you could probably uninstall them and see if it makes any difference. After doing all these things mentioned above, if you find that there is no significant change, you could probably have a sigh of relief.  But the problem of a slow laptop still is there. Isn’t 
it?

So, the next thing you could probably do is to see if too many processes are running at the same time at the background.  To view, which/how many processes are running at a given time, you will need to access the task manager by pressing Ctrl+Atl+Delete buttons.  Once you are in the task manager window, click on the tab that reads “processes”.  Just end the unnecessary processes and you will probably get to see a marked difference in the speed of your laptop.  If the performance of your laptop is not improved, you could try running a “disk cleanup” by going to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup. This action will help you compress the files and make it easier for your laptop to access the information.  Sometime deleting “cookies” or “temporary” files by going to the “tools” option can help. 

However, it would be a bit unwise to think that these solutions will work for everybody as there might be some other factors behind a slow laptop or computer.  So, if the problem still persists, you would probably want to consult a local computer repairs store.

Which laptop you should buy?

First came PC, then came laptop and then tablets. However I prefer laptop because it offers great multi-tasking capabilities. They also offer a lot more power and ease for everything from edition videos and creating powerpoints to playing the latest video games. But these days, many different kinds of laptops can be found in a variety of sizes, prices and features. So, which laptops you should buy? Well..that’s a thousand dollars question..literally.

If size factor doesn’t matter that much to you, then perhaps you should go for a 15 inch size laptop which also happens to be the most popular size.  Two great benefits of buying a 15 inch laptop are that they are very easy to carry, weighing not more than 5-6.5 pounds, and of course, they cost the least. Some 15 inch laptop models have DVD drivers too.  So far, so easy. Right?  But wait, things can get a little more complicated for average computer buyers like us when it comes to choosing CPU, the sizes of RAM & Hard drive, display, graphic chips, video cards and many other complex devices which we will probably never fully understand.  So, what to do? 

Well, to make things easier, I would go to an expert and consult with him/her, or just visit a local computer repair store if you don’t know anyone.  After all, a laptop repair expert would certainly be able to explain the different features of a laptop since he/she spends plenty of time fixing them.  Until next time, chao!

Become a computer Techie yourself and accomplish more with your computer!

There is no doubt that computers have simplified our lives so much so that if anything goes wrong with our computers, we become confused and worried.  For those, who know how to fix a computer, they can regard themselves lucky because they will probably be able to fix them sooner or later on their own.  But what about those people who have no clue whatsoever about how to fix a computer (trust me..i have known many people who have worked fairly long on  computers but have no idea how to solve a very simple problem)? I mean, how many people know what to do when the performance of your computer slows down. Or how can you solve the problems like frequent screen freezes, alarming blue screen of death, etc.

Things can become even more complicated when the causes to a problem can be attributed to more than one single factor. 

And, if that’s the case, it will be always wise to take your computer to a local computer repair shop that really knows about fixing a computer from inside out.  But before you trust tech experts to fix your computer, it is absolutely imperative that you do some research on what kinds of computer repairs & services your computer may require, and what may be the associated cost to fix it. After all, educating yourselves about the possible causes to the problems will help you to save time and money more often than not, specially if one has the following issues:

Computer won’t start ….grrrrrrrr!!

If a computer suddenly shuts off and has difficulty starting up, it could be so because of failing power supply. So, the next possible logical thing to do would be to check whether the computer is plugged into the power point properly or not.   If nothing changes after checking the power point, then it would be wise to test the power point with another working device. If the computer starts with the new working device, then you will need a power jack repair or replacement.  

Windows won’t boot/operating system functioning abnormally

If your windows doesn’t boot, you will probably need to reinstall it with the recovery disk.  But if your windows is not functioning properly (unresponsive or is acting up weird), then restarting your computer and running a virus scan would help.  Installing a reliable anti-virus/virus removal software will also help your computer run faster as it will clean up your hard drive & registry of unwanted files.

Retrieving lost files

Unfortunately, the issue of “data backup” has still not made to the top of the list as a major security task for many computer users. Important documents, photos, music libraries and emails are automatically stored on your computer's hard drive, which is a mechanical and electrical device.  But the problem is if the hard drive ever breaks down, all the data will disappear forever. A very dreadful scenario indeed! Isn’t it!

However, this deadly scenario can be averted if we take some necessary steps to backup our data to an external hard drive, server or cloud service. If you choose to back up to a hard drive, make sure that it is not placed near your computer as in case of fire it will also be destroyed. These days, many online backup solutions will allow you the advantage to access your data from anywhere in the world. They are not affected by natural disasters, and most online services guarantees 100% security by providing backup. Now, it may seem a lot of works to backup your data, but rest assured that recovering lost files is much more painful than working on data backup.

These are just some of the common computer & laptop problems that we can try to fix by ourselves.  Of course, time could be a factor for many of us. But, in reality, things like installing or upgrading anti-virus software, anti-malware programs, or updating Microsoft Windows, tuning up a computer or laptop or desktop PC don’t take much time.  I take it that some of the anti-virus scanning tasks do take some time to run and finish, but it doesn’t take any longer than the time you choose to spend on watching your favorite TV show.  Does it?
